How People Managed Before Modern Toilets
This photo has as much to do with the toilet, as it does with the invention of the camera. In the late 1800's, many people were wowed by this new picture making device. The French were the leaders in using the new technology to invade their own privacy in the most imaginative ways. This image displays a French woman squatting in a porcelain pot, relieving herself while hanky panky goes on behind her.
